TRANNE VERDE
Description of the project:
The choice of color, which is linked to the need for vital expression, even before an intellectual vision or a conceptual choice linked to contemporary art, is part of my desire.
Through color I live.
I took photographs of frescoes and paintings in different museums because they had one thing in common: the subjects. These were mysterious to me and when I looked at them I only saw them and nothing else. I wanted to discover the stories behind them, so I decided to use color to bring even more attention to these subjects (Isolate the color element, analyze its connections and variations and give intention to the reality represented, transfigure it and make sense of it) and help those who look at the photos understand their story and feeling through color. This is because colors are able to increase the observer’s level of attention, his participation, his understanding and even his memory.
As the Neoplatonic philosopher Plotinus said:
“the primary object of sight is color”.
This is how I found this combination of colors and subjects, useful for the purpose I had set myself.
As the director and painter Michelangelo Antonioni said: “what color do our feelings have?”
I decided to use color as a state of mind, recalling abstractionism and in particular that of Der Blaue Reiter, where importance is given to the emotions that could arise from a work based on colours pull over.
“Art is nothing other than the expression of our dream; the more we surrender to it the closer we get to the inner truth of things, to our dream life, to the real life that despises questions and does not see them.” (Franz Marc). Therefore, my decision to opt for the color element was inspired by this phrase but to choose it I needed people’s participation. And so I decided to send a photo to friends and acquaintances containing a white cutout to fill. Subsequently, when they woke up the following morning, I asked them to choose a color to fill the cutout based on their sensation and the dream they had had. This phase required the subjects to immediately observe the photo and think about a color well before carrying out any activity, so as not to be captured by the surrounding sight, thoughts or distracting elements. Finally, I asked them to write down the color and sensation upon awakening on a sheet of paper, to then record their voice while reading what was written.
Project installation: In the exhibition room, the voices of people whispering their feelings regarding the specific color chosen will be reproduced through audio speakers. The voices are confused, poorly defined, just like when, in a certain place, all the people start talking at the same time without paying attention to what the others are saying, each lost in their own world. The photographs can be observed on the walls of the room while sheets of paper with people’s writings will be arranged in a scattered manner on the floor.
